Cultural Geography Workgroup

Research Projects

The Cultural Geography Working Group deals with the plural and often contradictory meanings as they are attached to spaces and places and with the political debates and conflicts that arise out of this plurality. Such political action takes place on all spatial scales and entails governmental as well as non-governmental arenas of the political – from global civil society down to local communities. Drawing on concepts of cultural geography (e.g. critical geopolitics, political ecology, discourse theory, or institutional analysis) we attempt to reflect spatial phenomena and to critically scrutinize seemingly objective constructions of spatiality.
